The number of casualties of the 7.6-magnitude quake in West Sumatra of Indonesia has reached to 704 and some 295 others are still missing, the provincial Disaster Management Agency said Wednesday. Also 102,646 houses collapsed and 1104,770 were damaged.
Many schools, hospitals and roads were also affected by the quake and are in a bad state. ~ Thaindian News

Health workers fanned out across Padang on Tuesday to douse the Indonesian city with disinfectant over concerns about disease outbreaks six days after a deadly earthquake rattled Sumatra.

Philippines Typhoon – Typhoon Ketsana recently dumped twice as much rain on the Philippines as Hurricane Katrina did in New Orleans. More than 250 people have died, 500,000 are homeless and almost 2 million are affected. Another "super typhoon" threatens to hit the same area. There's a huge risk that communicable diseases will take many lives.
